Boat Owners
Boat Owners Lawyer | Charleston, South Carolina
Owning a boat is one of life's great joys. We know that from personal experience. The founder of our Charleston, South Carolina, admiralty and maritime law firm, attorney John Hughes Cooper, has had the pleasure of owning numerous pleasure boats and fishing boats, and, for a time, made his living as a shrimper before becoming a lawyer.
Owning a boat is also a big responsibility, and — when things go wrong — can be a major headache, even a nightmare.
At John Hughes Cooper, P.C., we represent vessel owners in a range of legal matters, from buying and selling a boat to collision and warranty claims. Please contact our law offices, located on Sullivan's Island, to find out how we can help you.

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act Claims
Generally speaking, the law considers pleasure boats, even luxury yachts, to be consumer goods. As a result, the owners or "consumers" of pleasure boats are offered protection under the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. This law was enacted by Congress to make warranties on consumer products understandable, to protect consumers from warranties that are deceptive, and to make warranties enforceable by law. If a vessel comes with a warranty, that warranty must comply with the Magnusson-Moss Act.
